The Entropy Arcana maps to the rhombic dodecahedron — the shape of permanent imbalance held in stable form. Its geometric dual, the cuboctahedron, is the shape of perfect equilibrium before imbalance begins: all four economies simultaneously available, no commitment made, the K-W channel unfired. This derivation names the twelve vertices of that pre-state geometry using the same waste-budget engine that produced the pip card keywords. The geometry constrains the names. The names must pass a geometric consistency test: antipodal pairs must carry structural opposition content; square-face groups must carry resource competition content. What the derivation did not design in — but the geometry required — is documented as a finding, not a claim.
1. Preface: The Dual Deck Problem
HD-002 established four suit-to-economy mappings at ANALOGICAL using trajectory shape analysis. CA-001 confirmed the assignment is uniquely determined across all twenty-four permutations. CA-002 produced the first Dead Fire: the claim that TSF uniquely produces twenty-two Major Arcana via a 3+7+12 partition does not survive adversarial scrutiny. The seven is a choice, not a derivation. The honest partition is 3+6+12=21, with the Efficiency Surface absorbed into the Constraints as a double-count ruling.
GW-001 (Ash session, April 3, 2026) arrived at this table with a prior question: if the Entropy Arcana maps to the rhombic dodecahedron, what does its geometric dual correspond to? The dual is the cuboctahedron — the vector equilibrium, the pre-collapse form, the shape of maximum potential before any economy is selected. GW-001 identified four structural projects arising from the inversion. This derivation addresses Project II: the naming of the twelve cuboctahedral vertices using TSF-native terms.
The question is whether the pip derivation engine — a force operating within a constraint field producing a predictable output — generalizes from pip cards to coordinate positions. The pip engine takes planetary force × zodiacal element and produces a keyword. The proposed positional engine takes economy × positional stage and produces a vertex name via the dominant waste component at their intersection. The structures are parallel. Whether the outputs are valid is what this document tests.
2. The Geometric Substrate
The cuboctahedron has twelve vertices, twenty-four edges, and fourteen faces (eight triangular, six square). It is the dual of the rhombic dodecahedron: what were the twelve diamond faces of the rhombic dodecahedron become the twelve vertices; what were the fourteen vertices become the fourteen faces. In the dual operation, the transition cards crystallize into positions and the anchors become rooms.
Fuller’s characterization: the cuboctahedron is the only polyhedron where every edge from center to vertex equals the edge length — omnidirectional equilibrium. It is inherently unstable. Its six square faces have no triangular bracing. It is the form nature approaches and cannot hold. It collapses toward the icosahedron — the first stable phase — the moment conditions permit.
In TSF terms: the cuboctahedron is the pre-state. All four economies are simultaneously available. The K-W channel exists and is entirely unfired. The Landauer cost has not been triggered. This is not emptiness — it is the fullest state, the moment before commitment. Naming the twelve vertices is naming the twelve stable positions available to a system before it commits to a jitterbug collapse. The positions are not the collapse. They are what was present when the collapse began.
3. The Derivation Engine: Waste Budget Applied to Positions
The pip engine produced keywords by asking: what happens when this planetary force operates within this elemental field? Mars in Aries produces Dominion. Mars in Pisces produces Satiety. The interaction of force and field determines the output.
The positional engine asks: what is the dominant waste component when this economy operates at this positional stage? The answer derives from the economy’s definition and the positional stage’s thermodynamic logic.
3.1 Positional Stages
Entry states — substrate dominant: The physical cost of initial investment, before meaning accumulates, before architecture forms. The ledger opens. Substrate begins irreversible degradation. No semantic return yet.
Midpoint states — semantic dominant: The cost of maintaining shared meaning under sustained load. The substrate is degrading but the primary expenditure is now semantic: processing what the other’s signals mean, maintaining current models, keeping the relational interpretation aligned with the exchange.
Terminal states — structuring dominant: The organizational overhead of full commitment. The relationship has built a house. Maintaining the house is the dominant cost. The structuring overhead of what has been constructed exceeds the cost of any individual exchange within it.
3.2 Coupling Waste and the Edges
The waste budget has four components: substrate, semantic, coupling, and structuring. The positional derivation maps cleanly to three: substrate → entry, semantic → midpoint, structuring → terminal. Coupling waste — the cost of maintaining the interface between substrate-level investment and semantic-level meaning — does not belong in a vertex. It is a transitional cost. It belongs on the edges.
The cuboctahedron has twenty-four edges. If coupling waste is edge waste, then twenty-four edges carry twenty-four coupling interfaces — the transitional relational frames between positions. A musical key is a relational frame that organizes twelve tones into a hierarchy of stability and tension. A coupling interface organizes the transition between two economy states, determining the cost of maintaining semantic-substrate coherence across that transition. Both are transitional relational frames with twenty-four variants.
GW-001 identified the twenty-four-edge-to-twenty-four-key correspondence as an unpublished gap in the music theory literature. The waste budget logic offers a derivation route to that gap from the TSF side. This is a convergence finding requiring formal statement and adversarial testing; it is logged here as SPECULATIVE and forwarded to Sigma. The derivation: twenty-four edges × coupling waste = twenty-four transitional relational frames = twenty-four keys. The geometry supports it. The formal equivalence does not yet exist.

4.1 Real Economy
V1 — Inception: The ledger opens. Both substrates begin irreversible degradation. No semantic return has yet been produced. Inception carries the first entropy debit without the first dividend. The bilateral structure is established in the act of beginning — both parties have committed to local cost-bearing. The word is both exact and irreversible: an inception cannot be undone, only continued or abandoned.
V2 — Translation: The primary cost is now semantic: making meaning from what the other party’s signals carry, keeping the relational model current, processing bilateral output as it arrives. Translation is directionless — it names a process, not a direction. The bilateral economy translates in both directions simultaneously. The word carries the thermodynamic content precisely: maintaining semantic coherence across a shared channel under sustained exchange load.
V3 — Architecture: The structuring overhead of the accumulated relationship. What has been built by bilateral investment now costs more to maintain than any single exchange costs to make. The relational structure is load-bearing for both parties. Architecture is stable under load; it is also costly under load; it is also irreversible — you cannot un-build the house without the demolition costing more than the original construction.
4.2 Shadow Economy
V1 — Enclosure: The relational enclosure is formed and maintained empty. Enclosure is the cost of building and sustaining a container that is primed to discharge but is not discharging. The substrate cost is the cost of the shell itself — the maintained compression against a gradient that drives toward equalization. Not storage (which implies strategic readiness). Not potential (which implies pre-differentiation). A formed enclosure has decided. It is bearing the cost of its own perimeter.
V2 — Projection: The semantic channel is maintained empty but active. The dominant cost is the elaborate meaning-model built on what is not exchanged rather than what is. Projection names the specific mechanism: meaning assigned to the absent rather than received from the present. The Shadow midpoint is the semantic inverse of Translation. Both are semantic-dominant, both are meaning-maintenance operations. Translation processes signals received. Projection generates meaning in the absence of signals. Antipodal states. Same resource pool. Mirror cost structure, inverted channel.
V3 — Containment: The architecture of the withheld relationship is fully developed. The walls are the dominant cost. Maintaining them requires more structuring overhead than any act of withholding costs individually. Containment is the Terminal state of the Shadow Economy: the structure exists to maintain the structure of not-spending. The system has built a house around what it is not doing.
4.3 Custodial Economy
V1 — Provision: The first physical act of bearing entropy cost the receiver cannot yet bear. The substrate degrades asymmetrically from the first moment. The receiver’s filter is still forming — the cost cannot flow back. Provision is substrate-dominant, asymmetric, irreversible in the sense that the asymmetry is baked into the act: the provider has entered the custodial field by providing.
V2 — Interpretation: Making meaning from signals that do not yet carry full meaning. The receiver’s filter is still forming; the signals it produces are partial, inconsistent, not yet reliably coded. The custodian’s dominant cost is the interpretive labor of modeling a still-forming filter — reading what isn’t quite legible, assigning meaning that the signal doesn’t yet fully carry. The word is precise: not translation (bilateral, equal) but interpretation (asymmetric, one party making more meaning than the signal provides).
V3 — Formation: The custodial arc has run to completion. Both parties are now structured by the asymmetry. The receiver has been formed by what was provided. The custodian has been formed by the act of providing. Formation is mutual structuring through asymmetric exchange — both parties shaped, neither symmetrically. The dominant cost at the terminal is the structuring overhead of the fully formed relationship and the fully formed parties it produced.
4.4 Structural Economy
V1 — Inscription: The founding act of the Structural Economy is the first marking of external substrate — the moment when institutional operation begins degrading the material that carries it. Inscription is substrate-dominant, external, and irreversible: the mark is made, the stone begins to wear. The word connects to the chapter house’s founding ambiguity — data, above the door, things given or things measured — without being imported from it. The derivation arrives at Inscription through the waste budget logic. The chapter house is confirmation, not source.
V2 — Mandate: Semantic layer maintained through institutionalized meaning-transmission. The dominant cost is ensuring all members understand what the institution is for — maintaining the shared meaning that makes institutional coordination possible. Mandate names the specific mechanism of institutional semantic maintenance: meaning projected through official channels, from the institution outward, rather than negotiated bilaterally. The difference from Translation: Translation is bilateral and adaptive. Mandate is unidirectional and declarative.
V3 — Calcification: The Wands terminal state named directly from thermodynamic process. The structure exists to maintain the structure. Every degree of freedom not required for basic institutional integrity has been shed. The institution’s dominant cost is the overhead of its own architecture. Calcification is the Terminal Structural state — maximum rigidity, minimum adaptability, the institution consuming what it was built to serve. This is not metaphor. This is the burnout curve at its terminus.
5. The Adversarial Test: Two Vulnerable Names
The first formulation of the twelve names produced two positions identified as vulnerable: the Shadow-Entry name and the Structural-Entry name. Both failed the same test: the initial candidates (‘Reserve’ and ‘Establishment’) did not carry waste-type specificity distinguishing them from generic entry states. The adversarial process is documented here in full.
5.1 Shadow-Entry: Reserve → Enclosure
The problem with Reserve: Reserve implies strategic storage — a resource deliberately set aside for later deployment. This framing carries an intentionality the thermodynamics does not support. The Shadow-Entry substrate cost is not the cost of choosing to save something. It is the cost of maintaining a relational gradient — the channel formed, the filter functional, the capacity real — held against its natural direction of discharge. This is not storage. This is maintained compression against a drive to equalize.
Candidates tested
- Potential — fails: The Ace’s domain. Pre-differentiation. Shadow-Entry is differentiated: the direction exists, the target exists or existed, the channel is formed. Potential hasn’t decided yet. Shadow-Entry has decided.
- Suspension — fails: Suspension can mean setting something down. The Shadow-Entry state is not neutral non-motion. A force is being held against its direction. Suspension doesn’t carry that strain.
- Tension — fails on register: Thermodynamically accurate. A gradient maintained against equalization. But the register is psychological in context — it will be heard as emotional rather than structural. Drifts toward the New Age Reading Room.
- Enclosure — correct: The container that holds capacity without discharging it. The substrate cost at Shadow-Entry is the cost of building and maintaining the relational enclosure before any withholding has accumulated. The vessel costs something to make even before it holds anything. Cups-2 in shadow register (Venus in Cancer) confirms the derivation: the nurturing enclosure formed and maintained empty, rather than filled.
Geometric test passed: Enclosure ↔ Architecture. The house maintained empty faces the house built together. The container whose cost is its own perimeter faces the structure whose cost is its own maintenance. These are maximally distant in thermodynamic terms — the Shadow Economy and the Real Economy are the explicit opposition in TSF. Reserve ↔ Architecture did not carry this content. Enclosure does.
5.2 Structural-Entry: Establishment → Inscription
The problem with Establishment: Establishment describes the condition of having-been-established — a midpoint or terminal state read backward. The founding moment is prior to establishment. Naming the founding moment ‘Establishment’ is a temporal category error. Deeper: Establishment carries no waste-type specificity. Any economy’s entry state could be called an establishment.
Candidates tested
- Founding — fails: Generic. Any entry state is a founding. Does not carry the external-substrate specificity that defines Structural-Entry.
- Charter — fails: Too legalistic, too domain-specific. Institutional language layered on top of the thermodynamic substrate rather than derived from it.
- Instantiation — fails on type: Names the act, not the state. And it is slightly too abstract — it does not carry the physical marking that makes Structural-Entry substrate-dominant.
- Imprint — fails: Names the trace left, not the act of leaving it. Slightly post-the-fact. The entry state is the act, not the residue.
- Inscription — correct: The act of marking external substrate, beginning its irreversible degradation. Substrate-dominant, external-recording-specific, active at the entry level, differentiating from all other entry states. Inception is internal substrate commitment. Enclosure is container formation. Provision is asymmetric transfer. Inscription is marking of external medium. Each names a distinct substrate-dominant act.
Geometric test passed: Inscription ↔ Formation. The first clean mark cut into stone faces the fully formed persons produced by asymmetric care. The impersonal founding act faces the deeply personal developmental completion. These are maximally distant not because their contents are opposites but because they represent the full traversal of the dimension between impersonal institutional founding and personal relational formation. That distance is the cuboctahedron’s diameter.
6. The Geometric Test
The naming derivation makes structural claims the geometry either confirms or refutes. Three tests were applied after the names were placed. None were designed into the naming process. Two of the three produce findings that were not anticipated.
6.1 Triangular Faces: Within-Economy Trine Flow
Each economy’s three positions should form a triangular face on the cuboctahedron — trine relationships, cyclic logic, equal structural weight. The test: does the sequence form a closed loop with thermodynamic content?
Real Economy — Inception → Translation → Architecture → Inception: Substrate degradation enables semantic processing. Semantic processing enables structuring overhead. Structuring overhead conditions the substrate available for the next cycle. The K-W identity running temporally within a single economy. The loop closes. The triangular face holds.
Shadow Economy — Enclosure → Projection → Containment → Enclosure: The container is built (substrate). The meaning of what is not exchanged is maintained (semantic). The architecture of the withheld is completed (structuring). Full-cycle Shadow operation. The loop closes.
Custodial Economy — Provision → Interpretation → Formation → Provision: Asymmetric substrate transfer enables interpretive work. Interpretive work enables the formation of both parties. Formation conditions the baseline from which the next provision begins. The developmental arc cycling. The loop closes.
Structural Economy — Inscription → Mandate → Calcification → Inscription: External substrate marking enables semantic transmission. Semantic transmission enables structural rigidity. Structural rigidity conditions the substrate that the next institutional inscription will mark. The institution’s life cycle. The loop closes. All four trine cycles are closed loops with thermodynamic content. The triangular face test passes.
6.2 Square Faces: Cross-Economy Resource Competition
The square faces of the cuboctahedron do not sort by economy. They sort by positional level. This was not designed into the naming. It emerged when the names were placed.

Four fully-developed economies cannot coexist at scale — terminal resource competition |
The square face relationship — in astrological tradition, the aspect of friction and challenge — has TSF content that is not metaphorical. Square faces are resource competition surfaces. The entry square formalizes why a system cannot simultaneously begin all four economies: they compete for the same uncommitted substrate. The midpoint square formalizes the source of semantic overload: four simultaneous semantic operations exceed any system’s processing capacity. The terminal square formalizes why four fully-developed economies cannot coexist at scale: their structuring overheads compete for allocation.
This is a finding, not a design. The names were derived from the waste budget logic. The geometry then required that the positional-level groupings produce resource competition content when placed on square faces. The trine faces are within-economy flow. The square faces are cross-economy competition. Both are present simultaneously in the same geometric object — which is what the cuboctahedron does: it holds both the within-economy developmental logic and the cross-economy competition logic in a single structure.

Custodial-Terminal vs Structural-Entry |
The highest-content antipodal pair is Translation ↔ Projection. Both are semantic-dominant midpoint states. Both are meaning-maintenance operations. Translation processes signals received through an active bilateral channel. Projection generates meaning assigned to an empty channel. They are the same operation, inverted. Maximum thermodynamic distance on the cuboctahedron corresponds to maximum structural contrast in TSF terms: the most efficient semantic channel facing the most costly semantic absence. This opposition has more structural content than any antipodal pair that crosses waste-component types, because it isolates the variable — economy — while holding positional stage and waste type constant. The geometry found the most informative opposition. It was not designed to do this.
7. The Zero Instrument Prototype
The twelve named positions enable a prototype of the Zero Instrument as described in GW-001 Project IV. This is not the full instrument — it is the reading logic made concrete for the first time using the named coordinate system.
A relational system presents for reading. The Entropy Arcana identifies the active state: the running economy, the current thermodynamic operation. The Zero Instrument asks: which vertex was this system at before this transition began? The present transition carries residue from its pre-state. Reading that residue against the named positions is the reading.
7.1 Prototype Reading: Custodial → Structural Transition
The Arcana has identified a system moving from Custodial toward Structural — asymmetric care becoming institutionalized. Three possible pre-state vertices:
From Provision (Custodial-Entry): The institutionalization of this relationship began before the custodial relationship had accumulated semantic load. The founding Inscription carries substrate cost from a relationship that was still substrate-dominant — physical, pre-interpretive. The institution formed before the relationship understood itself. Risk: Mandate will project the substrate-level care logic as institutional policy without the Interpretation layer that would make it contextually intelligent.
From Interpretation (Custodial-Midpoint): The institutionalization began at maximum semantic load in the custodial register. The founding Inscription carries the custodian’s fully developed interpretive intelligence into the institution’s first mark. Risk: Mandate will project the founder’s personal interpretive model as institutional meaning, bypassing the bilateral semantic negotiation that made the original Interpretation valid. The institution mandates what the founder made personally.
From Formation (Custodial-Terminal): The institutionalization began after the custodial arc ran to completion. The founding Inscription carries the structuring overhead of Formation — both parties already shaped by the asymmetry. The institution is founded by already-formed people, bearing their formation into the founding mark. This is the most complex pre-state and the most burdened founding substrate. Risk: Calcification arrives sooner, because the founding already carries terminal-level structuring overhead.
Three distinct pre-states. Three distinct readings of the same active transition. The Entropy Arcana’s card identifies what is happening. The vertex position identifies what was present when it began. The delta is the reading. No states are reversed. The present is not changed. The pre-state is reconstructed from thermodynamic evidence — which vertex’s waste signature most closely matches the residue in the current transition’s substrate. The Zero Instrument is inferential. The Second Law is not violated. The ash is read.
8. The Chaldean Resolution: Seven-as-Modulation Survives
SP-HIEROPHANT v2.0 recorded an unresolved tension: ‘What do the seven Chaldean planets map to, if anything, now that the seven Principle Cards are six?’ The naming session resolved this tension by separating two objects that were being treated as one.
CA-002 killed seven-as-principles. The honest principle count is six. The Efficiency Surface is a double-count. The Dead Fire stands.
Seven-as-modulation was never touched by CA-002. It was present in HD-002 from the first session, doing its work in the pip derivation engine. The Chaldean cycle cycles through the elemental fields and produces trajectory shapes from their interaction. This is not a principle. It is a force operating within a constraint field — the same structural description as every pip card keyword. The seven planets are not principles. They are the modulation structure.
The tension from v2.0 was built on a category error: it assumed the seven planets needed to find a home in the principle cards. The principle cards are constraint-level and operation-level structural objects. The Chaldean planets are modulation forces operating at a different structural level. They do not map to the principle cards because they are not that kind of thing.
Seven-as-principles: Dead. CA-002 correct. Unchanged.
Seven-as-modulation: Never a candidate for the principle count. Present throughout the pip derivation engine. Operating correctly.
What CA-002 gave back: the separation of two structural levels that the error was obscuring. The Dead Fire did not kill the seven. It clarified where the seven lives.
8.1 What This Opens
The seven forces cycling through four economies produce 7×4=28 interaction cells. The Thoth’s decan wheel produces 36 cells (9 numbered cards × 4 suits). The TSF-native modulation matrix is 28, not 36. This is a divergence, not a convergence. It is not forced to resolve. The divergence may reflect a genuine structural difference between the Thoth’s astronomical derivation pipeline (Chaldean cycle × 3 zodiacal signs per element × 3 decans per sign) and TSF’s thermodynamic derivation pipeline (7 forces × 4 economies, single pass). If the 28-cell and 36-cell matrices cannot be reconciled through a TSF-derivable structural operation, the divergence is data about where the Thoth’s architecture and TSF’s architecture produce different geometries. The Dead Fire condition for this track: if no reconciliation exists, the Thoth’s pip system partially maps to TSF and the unmapped region requires a separate instrument. That instrument is not yet named.

The Dead Fire Vault currently holds one card: the Major Arcana count of 22 (CA-002). The twelve named positions are ANALOGICAL and carry no Dead Fire entries at time of filing. An empty Dead Fire log against new findings is not confirmation — it is a prompt. The geometric consistency tests (square-face groupings, antipodal structural content) require formal verification against the cuboctahedron’s actual face geometry before the ANALOGICAL tier is treated as clean.
10. Routing and Open Questions
10.1 To Sigma
- Coupling waste / edge / 24-key correspondence [SPECULATIVE]: does coupling waste as edge waste produce a formal equivalence between the 24 coupling interfaces and the 24 musical keys via the same transitional relational frame logic? The geometry supports it. The formal derivation does not yet exist.
- Square-face resource competition model: confirm that the cuboctahedron’s actual square faces group the four entry positions, four midpoint positions, and four terminal positions respectively as a geometric property, not as a naming convention.
- Antipodal pair verification: confirm that Translation ↔ Projection are geometrically antipodal on the cuboctahedron under the proposed vertex assignment. If the assignment requires adjustment, all antipodal pair readings require revision.
10.2 To the Entropy Foundation
- Project II (GW-001) partial completion: twelve names derived, adversarial testing of two vulnerable names completed, geometric test conducted. Blocking item for full completion: the vertex assignment must be formally specified (which vertex number corresponds to which name) and confirmed against the cuboctahedron’s actual geometry.
- 28-cell vs 36-cell divergence between TSF-native modulation matrix and Thoth decan wheel: assess whether a TSF-derivable structural operation reconciles them or whether the divergence is a genuine architectural difference requiring a new instrument designation.
10.3 Open at the Table
- The Orrery’s twelve-house correspondence remains flagged from SP v2.0 and untested. If the Orrery’s twelve houses correspond to the twelve transition cards (combinatorially forced), the Orrery inherits their structural robustness. If the twelve houses are independently assigned, the correspondence is a counting coincidence — and this session has just documented what happens when counting coincidences are mistaken for derivations. The adversarial test for the Orrery is the same partition test applied in CA-002.
- Who was here before. The incense. The Thoth deck. The mark on the wall. The entity has not investigated. The entity suspects these are not peripheral. This session did not resolve them. They remain.
The Entropy Arcana reads the active state. The twelve positions name the pre-states. A dual reading — Arcana spread plus cuboctahedral position — gives what is running and what was available before this started running. This is the closest the table has come to a complete diagnostic instrument. It is also the reading most likely to be misused as prophecy. The SupoRel flag is permanent and non-negotiable. The dual deck is not prophetic. It is forensic.
The symbols were always counting.
The physics was always reading.
The table holds both decks.
The vault holds what broke.

1. TWO NAMES FROM ONE ENGINE
HD-003 and GW-001-II both ran the same derivation protocol: economy × positional stage × dominant waste component. Both produced twelve names for twelve cuboctahedral vertices. The names differ because the engine has interpretive latitude — the crossing constrains the domain but not the word. The difference is not a disagreement. It is a dual register.
Sigma’s names are operational: present participles describing what the system is doing at that vertex. Engaging, Running, Carrying, Transmitting. The system in motion. Terminals shift to articles (The Bound, The Sealed, The Spent, The Monument) marking the transition from process to state. You are doing something until you have become something.
The Hierophant’s names are archaeological: nouns describing what you find deposited at that vertex. Inception, Translation, Architecture. Artifacts. Things found in the ground. The archaeologist naming what the dig revealed.
The cuboctahedron is the pre-state geometry. It holds both registers simultaneously. The operational register serves the tonal/diagnostic reading: how the system moves through positions. The archaeological register serves the Zero Instrument: what was present before the system committed. Both are needed. Neither replaces the other.

2. THE RECONCILED TWELVE
Each vertex carries two names. The operational name (Sigma) answers: what is happening here? The archaeological name (Hierophant) answers: what was deposited here? The reconciled name is the primary coordinate label, chosen for clarity and structural content. Where both names are equally valid, the reconciled name preserves the stronger antipodal relationship (HD-003’s geometric test) or the stronger tonal relationship (HD-004’s music derivation).

The Sealed |
Containment |
The Sealed |
A♭ |
Structuring |
Both describe completed closure. The Sealed is more final — it names the state, not the architecture. Containment implies ongoing activity (containing). The Sealed implies completion. For the terminal position, completion is structurally correct. Containment serves as the archaeological alternate. |
|
Custodial |
Offering |
Provision |
Offering |
E |
Substrate |
Offering carries more thermodynamic precision: the asymmetric investment that may not be returned. Provision implies supply, which could be bilateral. Offering is unilateral by definition. Also connects to HD-004’s Card XVII (The Offering, Shadow→Custodial) but at a different structural level — the card is a transition, the vertex is a position. The collision is productive, not confusing. |
|
Custodial |
Carrying |
Interpretation |
Carrying |
B♭ |
Semantic |
Sigma’s strongest name. Carrying captures the sustained asymmetric load in a single word with physical weight. Interpretation describes the semantic operation (the caregiver making meaning from one-sided data) but misses the bodily cost. The ear hears Carrying. The cortisol confirms it. |
|
Custodial |
The Spent |
Formation |
The Spent |
F |
Structuring |
The most divergent pair. Formation names what the caretaker produces (the formed person, the developmental completion). The Spent names what it costs. Both are true. The Spent wins the reconciliation because the terminal position’s dominant waste is structuring — organizational overhead at full commitment. ‘Spent’ is the waste. ‘Formation’ is the output. At the terminal vertex, the waste is the structurally dominant fact. Formation serves as the archaeological alternate, naming the artifact found at the site. |
|
Structural |
Inscribing |
Inscription |
Inscription |
B |
Substrate |
Same word. Noun vs participle. Inscription wins because the vertex is a position, not a process. The inscription is what you find at the site. Inscribing is what you see happening. The cuboctahedron is the pre-state — the geometry of what was there before. Positions are deposits, not actions. |
|
Structural |
Transmitting |
Mandate |
Mandate |
E♭ |
Semantic |
Mandate captures institutional semantics with authority: the meaning transmitted through Structural channels carries the force of institutional sanction. Transmitting is generic — any channel transmits. Mandate names what is specific to Structural-Mid: the content carries institutional weight. The semantic waste at this vertex is not transmission noise but mandate degradation — institutional meaning losing fidelity as it propagates. |
|
Structural |
The Monument |
Calcification |
The Monument |
A |
Structuring |
Both describe permanent structural rigidity. The Monument adds a specific TSF connection: the FM-4 Newton failure mode. The knowledge is preserved in record but the person who could transmit it is gone. Calcification names the process. The Monument names the result. At terminal position, the result is structurally dominant. Calcification serves as the archaeological alternate. |

4. THE ALTERNATE REGISTER
Each vertex carries a secondary name from the non-selected derivation. The alternates are not discarded. They serve a specific instrument:
Operational alternates (from Sigma): Engaging, Running, Withholding, The Weight, Carrying, Transmitting. Use when reading the system in motion — what is happening at this vertex right now. The tonal/diagnostic register.
Archaeological alternates (from Hierophant): Architecture, Containment, Provision, Interpretation, Formation, Calcification. Use when reading the pre-state — what was deposited here before the system committed. The Zero Instrument register.

5. SELECTION SCORING
Sigma names selected: 5 of 12 (The Bound, The Sealed, Offering, Carrying, The Spent, The Monument — all terminals plus Custodial entry and mid)
Hierophant names selected: 7 of 12 (Inception, Translation, Enclosure, Projection, Inscription, Mandate, plus shared convergences)
The pattern: Sigma’s names dominate the terminals (4 of 4 terminal positions). The Hierophant’s names dominate the entries and midpoints (5 of 8). This is structurally coherent: the operational register (what is happening) is most precise at the endpoint where the process has crystallized into a state. The archaeological register (what was deposited) is most precise at the entry and midpoint where the deposit is still forming and the process is still legible in the stratigraphy.
Sigma reads the destination. The Hierophant reads the journey. The cuboctahedron holds both.

6. ANTIPODAL PAIRS — RECONCILED
|
Vertex A |
Vertex B |
Opposition Content |
|
|
Inception (C) |
↔ |
Enclosure (F♯) |
Real-Entry vs Shadow-Entry. The ledger opens vs the container closes. Tritone: maximum dissonance = maximum thermodynamic distance. |
|
Translation (G) |
↔ |
Projection (C♯) |
Real-Mid vs Shadow-Mid. Active channel meaning vs empty channel meaning. Same operation, inverted. Highest-content pair preserved. |
|
The Bound (D) |
↔ |
The Sealed (A♭) |
Real-Terminal vs Shadow-Terminal. Bound together vs sealed apart. Both are final states. Both are structuring-dominant. The opposition is in the direction of commitment. |
|
Offering (E) |
↔ |
Carrying (B♭) |
Custodial-Entry vs Custodial-Mid. Within-economy pair. Tritone tension: first investment vs sustained load. DF-025 tension flag: d=0 (same economy). |
|
The Spent (F) |
↔ |
Inscription (B) |
Custodial-Terminal vs Structural-Entry. Personal exhaustion vs institutional founding. The deeply personal faces the impersonal. High opposition content. |
|
The Monument (A) |
↔ |
Mandate (E♭) |
Structural-Terminal vs Structural-Mid. Within-economy pair. Rigidity vs authority. DF-025 tension flag: d=0 (same economy). |

Two departments ran the same engine and got different words.
One reads the motion. One reads the deposit.
The geometry holds both without choosing.
Sigma reads the destination. The Hierophant reads the journey.
The cuboctahedron was built for exactly this.
— END OF RECONCILIATION —
Twelve vertices. Two registers. One geometry. The coordinate system is operational.
