AX-21E: The Authorship Level

SupoSystem · THE AXIS · Reserved claim · measure specified, unrun · not a drafted paper

Holds a proposed distinction between authorship share by verbatim volume and by selection information. The bits measure remains uninstrumented, sampler-dependent and unable to measure origination or confer standing.

Edition and source note

Published 21 October 2026. Current identity AX-21E follows the resolved numbering register. The historical source filename and text say AX-21D; that alias is retained unchanged. AX-21D identifies The Returned Outside. This is the complete reservation record, not a promoted draft or a measured authorship result.

AX-21D — The Authorship Level

The node–authorship asymmetry, measured in words and bits

Michael S. Moniz · author of record · rendered with Claude (rendering surface) · 2026

The claim. The node–authorship asymmetry is a level, not a feeling — measurable, and split by construction into two quantities that disagree. Share-by-volume is verbatim survival: the fraction of a final artifact’s characters that left the author’s hands — computable now against a logged transcript. Share-by-effect is selection information: the bits a verdict contributes, the collapse of the candidate space before and after the author’s word — crudely the log of candidates killed, properly the divergence between pre- and post-verdict distributions. The catch the level exists for: an author can run a minority by volume and a supermajority by bits. Few words, many bits — AX-21C Section VI’s inversion, given units. Claim type: the volume grade operational; the bits grade mechanistic, uninstrumented.

The instrument. Selection bits live in runtime values — per-token entropy, top-1/top-2 margin, nucleus size — never in weights; the terminology firewall holds. The queued single-model logit extractor is the instrument; this paper adds a second consumer to a planned build. First target when it exists: the AX-21C transcript, so the consequence-node paper carries its own measured pair.

The conditionality rule. The level is conditional on decoding configuration. Raise temperature and the space widens — the same verdict carries more bits; lower it and the loop pre-collapses, shrinking the measured share with the author unchanged. An authorship level unpinned from its sampler measures the dial, not the author; pinned-sampler discipline applies. Claim type: operational rule.

The structural limit, owned. The measure meters steering and closure; it cannot meter ignition. Origination precedes the distribution it would collapse — no candidate space exists before the target does — so the level under-counts the one pole AX-21C proved non-delegable, and any reading must say so. Bits are not standing: authorship’s force is conferred by relation (AX-19), not computed. The level describes weight in the loop; it confers nothing.

Falsification. With samplers pinned, the claim dies two ways: if the bits measure fails to separate regimes that differ by construction — a heavily conducted arc against an accept-first-candidate arc — or if measured authorship moves more under sampler changes than under author changes. Either result collapses the level into a configuration artifact, and the death gets filed.

Governance. Function: the consequence node’s weight, given a unit — the cluster’s measurement addendum, numbered to stay with its origin. Status: RESERVED — number, spirit, form, claim types, kill condition held; the reservation rendered, per AX-14 precedent; kernel from the Principal, July 2026, off AX-21C’s ledger. May claim: measurable in principle; the volume grade computable now. Must not claim: any number for any artifact; bits as merit, standing, or authorship’s force; the settable dial as more than metaphor before the instrument exists; any coverage of ignition.

A dial is not an author.
